Cleanings
Spring Hill, FL

A woman on dental chair after her cleaning at DeLuca, Ressel, & Congemi Dental Care in Spring Hill, FL 34609-2463.Even if you are meticulous with brushing and flossing twice a day, it is still essential to get your teeth professionally cleaned at least twice a year, every six months. Oral hygiene is an integral part of keeping healthy, and dental cleanings ensure your teeth and gums stay plaque-free and smooth. Here at DeLuca, Ressel, & Congemi Dental Care our trained professionals can assist with your cleaning, as well as any other dental procedure you may require.

Your teeth and gums need meticulous attention because over time, they build-up plaque (a sticky bacteria film) that can lead to issues such as cavities, inflammation, and gum disease. Regular dental cleanings by a dentist will prevent these conditions and keep teeth clean and healthy.

There are different types of dental cleanings. Prophylaxis cleaning is just the medical term for a regular dental exam that ensures the health of teeth and gums. It is the process of removing plaque and tartar build-up from teeth, as well as stains and hardened plaque that regular toothbrushing can leave behind. Most dental professionals recommend regular cleanings every six months to make sure plaque and tartar build-up remain minimal and keep gums healthy between flossing and brushing.

New Technology

Using ultrasonic scalers to remove tartar and plaque from teeth is just as effective as manual scalers to clean teeth. However, where ultrasonic instruments shine is in the clearing of deposits from deeper pockets. The tips of these tools are small, allowing them to easily reach areas where manual tools have more trouble.

Why You Need to Schedule Regular Visits

It is important to schedule regular dental cleanings since your dentist can detect early issues like gum disease, oral cancer, cavities, and stains. Cardiovascular disease and gum disease (also known as periodontal disease), according to the American Heart Association, have shown to be linked. However, with regular cleanings, chances of future strokes or heart attacks may be reduced. In addition, regular checkups and cleanings can prevent bad breath, detect tooth abscesses, reveal tooth decay and canker sores, and ensure a healthy, white smile.

For people with braces or dental implants, dental cleanings are important to ensure healthy hygiene, prevent infections, maintenance of dental gear, and detect any issues like cavities, sores, or cancer. Elderly patients must also schedule regular cleanings to maintain a healthy mouth, clean teeth, and germ-free gums.

Dental Cleaning Process

There are several parts of the dental cleaning process, including a head and neck examination, a clinical dental exam, the actual dental cleaning, and dental x-rays. Our dentists will start by examining your face, neck, jaws, and lymph nodes. Next, we will go on to taking dental x-rays, a clinical dental exam (including looking for signs of gum disease, cavities, cancer, broken teeth, tooth decay, damaged tooth fillings, or other tooth hardware). We will then proceed with the dental cleaning. This includes polishing the teeth, cleaning the tongue and gums, flossing between all the teeth, removing plaque and tartar build-up, and then reviewing your dental practices to make sure you are doing it adequately at home.
